Nepal
is a land of extreme contrasts in climate and geography. It has a
unique topographyranging from lowlands with sub-tropical jungles to
arctic conditions in the Himalayan highlands. Within a mere 150 kilometers,
the land rises from near sea level in the south to over 8,000 meters
in the north. This together with the monsoon rainfall along the south
facing slopes has resulted in compacting virtually all climate zones
found on planet earth. as result , Nepal has been endowed with the
great diversity of life- zones providing a home for a large variety
, birds and animals.
Terai lowland is the richest habitat with the tall grasslands interspersed
with reverie and hardwood sal forest. Here one can see wild life such
as the swamp deer, musk deer, black buck, blue bull, and the Royal
Bengal tiger, Gharial and mugger crocodiles, and the last of a breed
of Asiatic wild buffalo. This area is also rich in birdlife with verity
of babblers and orioles, Koles and drongos , peacocks and floricans,
and a multitude of wintering wildfowl. Once
one if the most famous big game hunting areas in Asia , Chitwan
National park now offers protection to a large array of mammals
such as the one- horned rhinoceros, tiger , leopard, sloth bear
and the gaur ( wild bison ) as well as more then 400 species of
birds.
Royal Chitwan National Park
The
Royal Chitwan National Park which stand today as successful testimony
of nature conservation in South Asia. This is the first National
Park of Nepal established in 1973 to preserve a unique eco system
significantly valuable to the whole world. The Park covering the
protected area of 932 Sq. Km. is situated in the subtropical inner
Terai lowlands of southern central part of Nepal. The Park gained
much wider recognition in the world when UNESCO included this area
on the list of World Heritage Site in 1984. It should also be emphasized
that only a very small part of the national park is used for tourism.
The great majority of the land, particularly in the hills, remains
unvisited and therefore undisturbed. This is ideal for wildlife,
and also preserves an element of mystery for humans; because large
areas are still unexplored, our knowledge of what birds and animals
the park contains is by no means finalized, and there is always
the possibility of making new discoveries.
Royal Bardia National Park
Royal
Bardia national Park situated in western Terai of Nepal is one of
largest undisturbed parks in the region. The park is the home of
many endangered animals, reptiles and birds - including the elusive
Tiger. Some years ago several one horned rhinos where translocated
here from Chitwan. Over the years Bardia has also been a good place
for tiger viewing - a rare event anywhere. Recently sightings of
a group of wild elephants have further enhanced the wildlife experience
possible in this beautiful and unspoiled sanctuary. The Bardia Lodge
and Tented Camp provides comfortable accommodation and outings in
this unique park set on the banks of the Karnali River. A stay in
this park can be combined with raft trip down the Karnali and Bheri
rivers or with a trek to Dolpo, Rara Lake or Humla in far western
Nepal.
Kosi Tapu Wildlife Camp
The Kosi Tapu and the Kosi Barrage in east Nepal
provide one of the best places in Nepal to view
migratory water fowl, waders and shore birds during the winter months.
Many species not recorded elsewhere in the region have been seen
here. Thousands of birds congregate here in January and February
before they migrate north when the warm weather begins. Kosi Tapu
Tented Camp situated on the fringe of the reserve provides the only
accommodation to date. Well qualified nature guides take the guests
out on walks, jeep drives and boat rides to look for birds and the
wild buffalo found only here in Nepal. It is possible to combine
this tour with Sun Kosi Raft Trip or with treks in the eastern hills
or with Darjeeling/Sikkim extension. |
